“An unforgettable trip. Our guide spotted a leopard on day one and knew every bird by name. Milele Expeditions made it effortless.”
The Aya Sophia wildlife experience is a day of easy luxury on the plains between Meru and Kilimanjaro: a private estate where giraffes graze the grounds, lunch is served in the bush, and an infinity pool looks out to the mountains. It is the gentlest, most restful day on our list.
Aya Sophia Wildlife is a boutique estate at Maji ya Chai, about half an hour from Arusha and twenty minutes from Kilimanjaro International Airport. Wildlife lives on and around the grounds; giraffes are a common sight against a backdrop of Mount Meru and, on clear mornings, Kilimanjaro itself.
Your day here is unhurried by design. Settle in with a coffee from the lounge, wander the gardens, watch the resident wildlife, and let the pace drop. It is a resort-style escape rather than a game park, ideal for a rest day, a first or last day around the airport, or simply a beautiful place to do very little.

The centrepiece is a long, relaxed lunch, often served bush-style in a scenic corner of the grounds, followed by an afternoon at the infinity-edge pool. Add a spa treatment, a gentle bike ride, or a lawn game, and the hardest decision is whether to swim before or after dessert.
It is a natural pairing with the airport: turn a long layover or a first jet-lagged day into something memorable rather than a hotel-room wait.

This is a leisure day, not a safari; the joy is the setting and the slow pace. Pool, spa and dining are the focus, so bring swimwear and something comfortable for a long lunch.
It works beautifully at either end of a trip thanks to the short airport transfer. Ask us to combine it with a private custom day trip if you want a little activity alongside the rest.
