“An unforgettable trip. Our guide spotted a leopard on day one and knew every bird by name. Milele Expeditions made it effortless.”
The Arusha waterfalls, hiking and coffee tour is the perfect green half-day on the doorstep of town: a forest walk to the Napuru Falls on the lower slopes of Mount Meru, followed by a working coffee farm where you taste the northern highlands in a single cup. Cool air, birdsong and no crowds.
A short drive north of Arusha the town falls away into the montane forest that skirts Mount Meru. From the trailhead a local guide leads you along a shaded path of fig, podo and wild coffee, loud with turacos, hornbills and colobus monkeys crashing overhead.
The trail ends at the Napuru Falls, a cool cascade tumbling over a black basalt wall into a mossy pool. It is a quiet, local spot rather than a tourist honeypot, so most days you will have the sound of the water to yourselves.

Mount Meru's rich volcanic soil grows some of Tanzania's best arabica, and on the way back you stop at a smallholder farm to see how. You walk the rows of coffee bushes, then follow the beans through picking, pulping, roasting over a fire and pounding by hand before the reward: a fresh cup on the veranda with the mountain in view.

The trail is gentle but can be slippery after rain, so closed shoes with grip are the one essential. It is cooler on the mountain than in town; a light layer is welcome.
The day pairs naturally with the rest of the region. Add Lake Duluti canoeing for a second easy morning, or fold it into a multi-day safari.
