Lake Duluti is a small, forest-ringed crater lake just twenty minutes from Arusha town, and the greenest, gentlest nature escape in the area. Cradled in an old volcanic crater and wrapped in fig and albizia forest, its still water mirrors the trees and, on clear days, Mount Meru. The lake is a protected forest reserve and a birdwatcher’s delight - fish eagles, kingfishers, herons and cormorants patrol the shallows, while monitor lizards bask on the banks and colobus monkeys move through the canopy. A flat nature trail follows part of the shore, and canoeing on the calm water is the signature way to experience it. Quiet, close and easy, Duluti makes a perfect half day on its own or between bigger safari days.
