Materuni Waterfalls

About the Park

Welcome to Materuni Waterfalls

Materuni is a Chagga village perched at about 1,500 m on Kilimanjaro’s southern slopes, fifteen minutes of rough track above Moshi, and home to one of the north’s most rewarding day-trip waterfalls. A green footpath winds down through banana and coffee gardens to a single ribbon of water that drops some 80 metres off a mossy cliff into a cold, clear plunge pool. The falls are only half the story: Materuni is also the heart of Chagga coffee country, and a visit almost always pairs the walk with a hands-on coffee experience - picking, roasting and pounding beans with a farming family before drinking the cup you just made. Green, friendly and community-run, it is the classic easy day out from Moshi or Arusha.

Best time to visitYear-round. The falls run fullest in and just after the rains, when the trail is also at its muddiest.
