“An unforgettable trip. Our guide spotted a leopard on day one and knew every bird by name. Milele Expeditions made it effortless.”
A walking safari in Tanzania is the bush with the volume turned up: every track, scent and alarm call suddenly matters. Guided by a professional walking guide and an armed ranger, you trade the game-drive window for grass under your boots.
Walks are scheduled for early morning or late afternoon, when temperatures are cool and animals are moving.
Your guide reads the ground like a newspaper: fresh elephant dung, a leopard's drag mark, the alarm whistle of an impala. You learn how the whistling thorn recruits ants as bodyguards, and which tree bark the Maasai brew for malaria.
Where you walk shapes the experience. In Arusha National Park, ranger-led walks pass waterfalls and colobus forest. Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area offer classic big-game walking among baobabs and open plains, while wilderness zones of the Serengeti and the vast Nyerere in the south host longer walks deep in lion country.
This is not a fitness event. Distances are short and the pace is deliberately slow, because the point is to notice. Children generally need to be 12 or older under park walking rules.

Dung beetles rolling their improbable cargo, termite cathedrals taller than you, ant-lion funnels in the sand. An hour on foot turns the bush from scenery into a system you can read.
Our walking guides are TANAPA-certified with years of ranger experience. Before setting out you get a clear safety briefing: single file, no sudden movements, the ranger leads.

Wear neutral colours, closed boots and long trousers. Never bright white or blue.
Walks run in single file, voices stay low, and your ranger's instructions are absolute.
Morning walks are the coolest and most active; afternoon walks end with the best light. The dry season concentrates game near water and keeps the grass low for visibility. Park rules at TANAPA.
We slot walks into almost any itinerary: a morning leg-stretch in Tarangire, or a full walking day on the Ngorongoro Crater rim.
Honest advice, even when it costs us. Community partnerships, from village fees paid directly to guides hired locally, keep your money working where you travel.
Tell us which parks are already on your route and we will build the walks in. Most guests add them to a northern circuit safari at little extra cost. Send your request.
